A possible outline timetable for a themed week on sustainable travel
Unit 1: Literacy: "If affects me" - reading a letter; interviewing; report writing (approx 2 hours)
Unit 2: Maths/Geog: "Traffic in the UK" - analysing UK traffic data; drawing graphs; drawing conclusions (2 - 3 hours)
Unit 3: Science/Geog: "Global climate change" - Understanding global climate change through a web based study (2 hours)
Unit 4: Maths/Geog: "Planning traffic data collection" - Planning the collection of traffic data outside school over a full day (1 hour)
Unit 5: Maths/Geog: "Collecting data" - Collecting and recording traffic data outside school (1 day)
Unit 6: Maths/Geog: "What is the traffic like outside our school?" - Recording and analysis of traffic data from survey outside school
Unit 7: Geog/PSHE: "Local impacts of congestion" - How does congestion affect us economically, socially, environmentally and personally
Unit 8: Maths/Geog: "What does our school travel survey tell us?" - Graphing the School Travel Survey and drawing conclusions
Unit 9: Geog: "My journey to school" - Plotting journeys to school, working out distances and highlighting possible problems
Unit 10: Geog: "Walking the walk" - Trying out a walk to school route, mapping it and identifying ways in which it can be made safer and more attractive
Unit 11: Literacy: "Geog: Carrots and sticks - problem solvers" - Local solutions to global climate change and local congestion
Unit 12: Literacy: "Communicating solutions" - Changing the behaviour of children, parents and the wider community
Unit 13: Literacy/PSHE: "Campaign" - Planning how to persuade children, parents and the wider to community to move to more sustainable travel behaviour
