Links are provided to further support and encourage
teachers in communicating the issues around climate change
and congestion.
ETA makes no claim as the the quality or accuracy of external
resources, and inclusion should not necessarily be taken as
an indicator of agreement or support for any other
organisation or programme.
If you find other useful resources and links in teaching
about climate change and traffic, please give us a very short
review and
let us know so that we can add them
to our links pages for other teachers to use.
Global Warming Activity Pack for Key
Stage 2 and
3
ACE
(Atmosphere, Climate and Environment Information
Programme) from Manchester University
Last updated in 2002 so a little dated, but still a
useful summary for both teachers and pupils of the
background to Climate Change. There are also some
puzzles, games and quizzes which will be useful during
the week.
The Greenhouse Effect
RSPB website
A
useful explanatory text suitable for Year 6 or more
advanced readers
Doing the school run
Global Footprints
A series of lessons on percentages using the old Numeracy
Framework for Year 6 to assess the difference between

Very useful additional activity to the Maths in the ETA

School Travel Links and
Advice
Department for Transport
Information on funding, travel plans etc
Climate Change
Department for Food and Rural Affairs
(DEFRA)
Government information. Useful summaries and statistics.
Climate Change for Kids
From the US Environmental Protection
Agency
Very easy to read info for average readers about climate
change and the greenhouse effect. This is probably one of
the best sites to encourage your children to look at and
could provide a good resource for Literacy lessons too.
Also some good games and quizzes.
The Encyclopedia of the Atmospheric
Environment
Atmosphere, Climate &
Environment Information Progamme,
supported by the
Department for Environment, Food and
Rural Affairs. The Encyclopedia is a one-stop
source of information, for younger and older users
alike, on a range of atmospheric issues, including
air quality, acid rain, global warming and ozone
depletion. Quite useful but possibly dated (seems to
be last updated in 2000) and only for older or more
experienced readers.
Greenhouse effect: how the earth stays
warm
Enviroweb
This is an easy to read explanation of climate change and
the human contribution to it. Contains some useful facts
and figures.
National Travel Survey Summary
Sheet
Department for Transport
This Factsheet summarises findings on levels of walking
and
public attitudes to walking.
Climate change topic
Marine Conservation Society
(MCS)
Some useful information and also teaching plans on
climate change itself if you wanted to look at it in more
depth. Very good Science experiment on 'Does water warmup
with air temperature?' Not transport related at all but
still useful.
Streetmap
Tap in your
school or home postcode or town
to find a useful streetmap of the area. Useful for
working out routes to school in
Unit 10.
Google Earth
Fantastic way to view your area from the air. The quality
varies depending on where you live, but from a distance
is fine anywhere and gives a good bird's eye view of your
locality.
